Measurements of Solar Differential Rotation Using the Century Long Kodaikanal Sunspot Data

چکیده
The rotational profile of the Sun is considered to be one key inputs in a solar dynamo model. Hence, precise and long-term measurements this quantity important for our understanding magnetism its variability. In study, we use newly digitized, white light sunspot data (1923 -- 2011) from Kodaikanal Solar Observatory (KoSO) derive rotation profile. An automated correlation based tracking algorithm implemented measure parameters, $A$, equatorial rate $B$, latitudinal gradient. Our $A=14.381\pm0.004$ $B=-2.72\pm0.04$ compare well with previous studies. analysis, find that bigger sunspots (with area $>$400~$\mu$Hem) rotate slower than smaller ones. At same time, do not any variation rates between activity extremes, i.e maxima minima. Lastly, employ on Michelson Doppler Imager (MDI) MDI results KoSO values.

Preferred sunspot longitudes: Non-axisymmetry and differential rotation
As recently found, the distribution of sunspots is non-axisymmetric and spot group formation implies the existence of two persistent active longitudes separated by 180◦. Here we quantitatively study the non-axisymmetry of sunspot occurrence. In a dynamic reference frame inferred from the differential rotation law, the raw sunspot data show a clear clustering around the persistent active longitu...
متن کاملAnomalous solar rotation in the early 17th century.
The character of solar rotation has been examined for two periods in the early 17th century for which detailed sunspot drawings are available: A.D. 1625 through 1626 and 1642 through 1644. The first period occurred 20 years before the start of the Maunder sunspot minimum, 1645 through 1715; the second occurred just at its commencement. Solar rotation in the earlier period was much like that of ...
متن کاملReconstruction of solar irradiance using the Group sunspot number
We present a reconstruction of total solar irradiance since 1610 to the present based on variations of the surface distribution of the solar magnetic field. The latter is calculated from the historical record of the Group sunspot number using a simple but consistent physical model. Our model successfully reproduces three independent data sets: total solar irradiance measurements available since...
متن کاملMagnetic Helicity Generation by Solar Differential Rotation
Observations of sunspots, active regions, filaments, coronal arcades, and interplanetary magnetic clouds indicate that the Sun preferentially exhibits left-handed, negative-helicity features in its northern hemisphere, and their opposite counterparts in the south, independent of sunspot cycle. We investigate quantitatively the generation of magnetic helicity by solar differential rotation actin...
متن کاملSunspot Rotation and the M-class Flare in Solar Active Region NOAA 11158
In this paper, we measure the rotation of a sunspot in solar active region NOAA 11158 (Solar Target Identifier SOL2011-02-15) that was associated with an M-class flare. The flare occurred when the rotation rate of the sunspot reached its maximum. We further calculate the energy in the corona produced by the sunspot rotation. The energy accumulated in the corona before the flare reached 5.5× 10 ...
